Today is the Albuquerque Public Schools’ (APS) elections for School Board. Working America has endorsed three candidates who have already served the APS system well, and we believe they will continue to work with parents, teachers, and administrators to further improve the city’s schools.
For District 3, Lorenzo Garcia. Mr. Garcia is a graduate of APS and a lifelong Albuquerque resident. He considers overcoming the achievement gap in the city’s schools, and is intent on strengthening family and community partnerships to support education.
District 3 covers the North Valley and stretches to the Albuquerque High area.
For District 6, Paula Maes. Ms. Maes has served the APS School Board well for 12 years, to which she brings her vast experience as President and CEO of the New Mexico Broadcasters Association. Her four sons also attended and graduated from APS schools, and she understands that parental involvement is key to students’ success.
District 6 includes East Mountains and near Heights.
For District 7, David Peercy. With a Ph.D. from New Mexico State University, Dr. Peercy has served on the APS School Board since 2009. He sees direct classroom support has a high priority for the city’s education funding, and wants to reduce high-stakes testing time to give curriculum power back to teachers.
District 7 covers the far Northeast Heights and the La Cueva Area.
